Product Designer - Design Systems / WebApp / Mobile App / SaaS

TBD

Overview

TasteMakers is a curated network of designers, creative technologists, and AI-native makers working on projects with leading AI labs, tech companies, and brands. We're on a mission to end AI slop. We're looking for product designers who have designed real web apps, mobile apps, and SaaS products, including designers with real design systems depth. You combine strong UX fundamentals (flows, information architecture, interaction logic) with a clean, modern visual sensibility, and you think in systems: tokens, components, and the consistency that lets a product scale. You can also explain why a design works, not just make it look good. This is a general pool for product design experts. Qualified designers are matched to active, paid projects as they open. Remote and async, as an independent contractor. Commitment: 15-40 hours per week.

What you'll do

  • Design high-fidelity web, mobile, and SaaS screens and flows from a brief, across a wide range of industries and product types
  • Build and evolve design systems: color ramps, type scales, spacing and radius tokens, and components with variants and states
  • Translate a brand into a product-ready system that stays consistent across every surface
  • Produce wireframes and well-organized Figma files with consistent components
  • Evaluate product and system work for usability, visual quality, and system adherence, flagging exactly where it breaks and why
  • Compare design directions, choose the stronger one, and write clear, opinionated rationale
  • Prompt and evaluate AI-generated product UI, and help AI systems learn what separates mediocre from exceptional design

Required skills

  • 3+ years of professional product design on web apps, mobile apps, or SaaS products (marketing websites alone do not qualify)
  • A portfolio of real application work, ideally end-to-end case studies showing the problem, the flows or system, and the final UI
  • Strong UX fundamentals: layout, hierarchy, information architecture, and interaction design
  • A clean, modern UI sensibility with craft-level attention to spacing, typography, and component consistency
  • Expert proficiency in Figma (variables, components, variants, auto layout)
  • Ability to articulate clearly and precisely what works or doesn't in a design, in plain language
  • For design systems work: you've personally built and owned a token-based system (not just used one someone else built), ideally 4+ years
  • Bonus: working knowledge of HTML/CSS/tokens, experience with AI design tools, and a background at a product company, SaaS startup, or design systems team
