Digital Brand / Product / Web Designer - Judgement

Overview

We are building a team of senior designers to evaluate and improve the output of an ai design tool. The work produces structured before and after design records that help measure and improve how well the tool performs on real design tasks. You will generate designs from your own prompts, judge them with a professional eye, correct what the tool gets wrong, and document each case precisely. This is design judgment work, not production design work. There is no client, no stakeholder review, and no deadline pressure on the designs themselves. What matters is the accuracy of your eye and the rigour of your documentation.

What you'll do

  • Write prompts that generate designs across a range of mediums: responsive websites, web and mobile app interfaces, presentations, documents, posters and editorial layouts, branding assets, social media assets, design system components, and data visualisation
  • Review each output and identify genuine visual errors, things like overlapping text, misaligned sibling elements, content spilling outside containers, broken stacking order, or requirements from your brief that the tool failed to deliver
  • Distinguish objective errors from personal preference. A different font choice is a preference. A chart line running through a label is an error. This distinction is the core skill of the role
  • Fix the errors using the tool's visual editor panel, and document exactly which elements you changed and which properties you modified
  • Identify targeted refinements that would take a good design to a polished one, then test whether the tool executes them correctly when asked
  • Capture supporting evidence for each case: cropped screenshots, element dimensions, viewport size, and a session export
  • Complete a structured record for each case, roughly 20 fields, with no gaps
  • Required skills

    • 5 or more years of hands-on design production experience in product, visual, digital, or brand design
    • A portfolio showing craft-level attention to layout, spacing, hierarchy, and typography
    • The ability to look at a design and articulate precisely what is wrong with it in plain language, without reaching for jargon
    • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS. You will not be building anything, but you need to understand what a property like `margin-top` or `z-index` actually does
    • Comfort with browser developer tools. You will read element dimensions and viewport values yourself
    • Genuine care for accurate, complete documentation. Records with missing or approximate fields cannot be used
    • Fluent written English
    • A reliable computer running Chrome, and around 10-20 hours a week you can commit consistently
    • **Strongly preferred**
    • Experience using AI design or generation tools in your own practice, and a view on where they succeed and fail
    • Direct experience with ai Design Programs like Claude or similar
    • Breadth across mediums rather than depth in one. Someone who has shipped both a slide template and a mobile interface is more useful here than a specialist
    • Previous experience with structured data annotation, model evaluation, or design QA work
    • ## Engagement details
    • Freelance engagement through Taste
    • Fully remote, hours are flexible within the week
    • Onboarding is a live call plus a written guide. Expect the first few cases to take longer while you learn the capture process
