Sr. Digital Designer - Design & Ship (html, css,js and/or code agents)

30 hrs/week | Starts Sep 28, 2026

Overview

About the project We are building a team of senior designers to produce finished websites and web apps from short product prompts, working with a coding agent as a design-to-code partner. Each prompt describes a small real-world product, for example a bold, high-contrast landing site for a local food collective, or an offline-first logbook app for running a tabletop game. You take it from prompt to a working, screenshot-ready build. This is production work. You make the product decisions the prompt leaves open, you own the visual result, and you ship code that runs. What matters is the quality of the finished build and how precisely you document how you got there. The client is calibrating on "extremely high quality", so craft is judged, not just function.

What you'll do

  • Read a short prompt and turn it into a finished website or web app: structure, content, visual design, and working front-end code
  • Make the product calls the prompt leaves open: page structure, data model, states, mobile behavior, offline behavior where asked
  • Build with coding agent where your pool allows it.
  • Record your active working time per task, excluding breaks
  • This will be a pilot, and we'll need folks who can dedicate themselves fully for 3-4 days.

Required skills

  • 5 or more years of hands-on design experience in product, visual, digital, or brand design, with shipped web work in the portfolio (live links, not only mockups)
  • A portfolio showing craft-level attention to layout, spacing, hierarchy, and typography, and range: able to go bold and high-contrast when the brief asks for it, and restrained when it does not
  • The ability to build a website or web app yourself. HTML, CSS, and JavaScript at minimum; you must be able to hand over a runnable codebase (can be with the help of a coding agent)
  • Product thinking: comfortable defining information architecture and a simple data model from a two-sentence brief, and explaining your choices
  • Genuine care for accurate, complete documentation.
  • Fluent written English, for the questionnaire and for your prompts to the agent
  • A working development setup (a modern browser, a code editor, Node.js or equivalent to run a local build), and the availability to do concentrated work inside the pilot week, including a kickoff call on day one
  • Strongly preferred
  • Fluency with an AI coding or design-to-code agent in your own practice: Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar. Fluent means you direct the tool, review and correct its output, and can export the full conversation. We are staffing a large part of the team with designers who already work this way
  • A modern framework (React, Next.js, Vue, Svelte) and a utility CSS system such as Tailwind
  • Offline-first or PWA basics: local storage, service workers, installable web apps
  • Experience shipping small sites and prototypes fast, and at high quality
